Cape Town was alive with excitement this past weekend (7 - 8 February) as the Mother City played host to her most enthralling event to date – The Pro-X Extreme Games 2009. Hosted by Recked Industries, in association with Resolution, Pro-X took extreme sports to a new level transforming a vacant V&A Waterfront parking lot into a sports arena like no other.
The seldom used Waterfront canal was carved-up by wakeboarders performing flips and spins, off the custom built kickers and rails. Enthralled, and often drenched, spectators had front row seats as they lined both sides of the canal as well as an overhead view from the bridge.
Skateboarders and rollerbladers brought life back to solid ground as they performed radical tricks on a half pipe and weaved in and around spectators performing rails, 360’s ollies, reverts and heel-flips.
Audiences were stunned by the delicate aerial skills perfected by the trail bike riders as they balanced and hopped from log-to-log, along the narrow wooden poles that were laid out along their route.
The totally insane BMX riders shredded up a dirty track consisting of ramps, hills and burns constructed from possibly the most exclusive of Camps Bay clay and bone breaking concrete. These extreme riders totally rocked the crowd as they performed their technical tricks of spins, tail whips and flips that amazed the packed crowds and left them cheering for more.
The highlight of the weekend had to be the image of the Freestyle Moto-X riders flying through the sky. With Table Mountain as the backdrop, it was the perfect setting for the country’s best riders to show off their internationally recognised skills, with back flip combinations and all sorts of death defying tricks, performed at a height of 15 metres above the ground. With no margin for error these professional riders knew exactly how to send the crowd into a frenzy.In addition to the death defying displays of speed, tricks and whips Pro-X delivered a killer line-up of SA bands performing live on stage and providing the soundtrack to these most Extreme Games.
Two days of extreme sports and extreme entertainment with not a disappointed person in sight as everyone left exuding an excitement that only extreme can provide. This year’s Pro-X was definitely not to have been missed – but don’t worry if you did, next year is going to be massive!

Pro X Extreme games 2009 - Cape Town, South Africa
The Pro-X is the 1st of it's kind in South Africa, based on the internationally acclaimed X Games the Pro-X is n event that will provide a platform for South African alternative sport athletes to show what they have when it comes some of the most daring extreme sports.
The pro-x will give the athletes the chance to perform in front of a huge crowd and stand the chance to win a Pro-X gold!
Prize money as well as sponsor hampers will be up for grabs for the most daring and skilled rider over the course of the weekend. The event will take place over 2 days with qualifying happening on the on 7th February followed by the highly anticipated finals on the Sunday where athletes will push themselves to their limits as they push for the Gold. Riders will be judged on Best trick, Biggest air, speed and style!!!!!
Spectators will have the opportunity to experience nothing they have ever seen before on South African soil as they witness big air tricks as well as some of the top Bands on this side of the equator.
The expo side of the event is sure to blow your mind as it will host the top sporting brands, clothing brands, and other crazy gimmics they will keep you entertained and amused for the weekend.

Sentinel Boardriders Press Release January 2009 Hout Bay Youth Lifestyle Centre and Skate Park Facility Up and Rolling
Though only partially complete, new Hout Bay skate park is now fully operational. Following a successful launch event late last year the skate park, which forms part of the Sentinel Boardriders Youth Lifestyle Centre, has been packed ever since. "We've had so many kids coming here every day we've had to turn some of them away when the park has been too full," said park manager and Sentinel Boardriders board member Clive Crofton.
'Skate4Life', the launch event, was a massive success. On a sparkling sunny Sunday afternoon on December 21, the event was attended by more than 2000 people from all over Cape Town and beyond, who all enjoyed incredible skateboarding from the year-end NSA (National Skateboarding Association) event and great music from DJs and bands. The event also served as the launch for extreme sports web portal www.good-life.co.za.
Despite not yet receiving the long-awaited and overdue ward allocation finance promised by the local council, Sentinel Boardriders decided to take the risk themselves and were only able to open the park thanks to the charity of local companies and community individuals who donated their effort, time, money and materials towards the project. Many of the young skateboarders themselves have also been helping around the park return for skate "session" credits.
Crofton, Sentinel Boardriders Chairperson Dale Bird and the rest of the members of Sentinel Boardriders report that the park, which has yet to be officially named, has been turning over consistently since then. However they still desperately need the ward money as well as additional sponsorship to complete the remaining unfinished sections of the park, in order to accommodate more skateboarders and fulfil their development aims, as well as pay for items such as fencing, wood for the ramps, concrete slab and security.
However, after campaigning valiantly against the odds for eight years to get this park opened, and despite limited funding and a seeming lack of support from the authorities, Bird is confident that Sentinel Boardriders will achieve their objectives of creating a sustainable, community-minded and eco-responsible youth facility, events and camps aimed at uplifiting the youth of Hout Bay and that they will be able set an example for other towns who wish to do the same. "It is very disappointing the council have not yet deposited our promised funding and despite trying to repeatedly resolve the seemingly never ending 'processes', we can't seem to find out what is really going on," said a clearly frustrated Bird. "But we've come this far and are going to push on regardless with or without their help."
"We are planning to hold skateboarding lessons for youths and through local schools," said Crofton, "and we also plan to bring in underprivileged kids from townships and Hangberg for development lessons and workshops in things like entrepreneurship, skate park building, design, photography and journalism etc. so they get a well-rounded overview of all the career opportunities available in the extreme sports industry and more." Sentinel Boardriders are calling to anyone who might be able to assist them. "The park is open and ticking over, but we still need a lot of funding and sponsorship to achieve our aims," added Crofton."

Zoo York Unbreakable Skate Tour
Zoo Yorks world Renowned skateboarding team will embark on their first official South African Tour this April.
The Zoo York institute presents Z.Y. Officials Zered Bassett, Forrest Kirby, and Brandon Westgate in a highly anticipated South African skate tour.
We will be showcasing Their talents at two skateparks in Durban and two in JHB.
At each venue the guys will be signing posters, and handing out giveaways to the crowd.
Which will be followed by a hardcore demo.
Plenty of street spots will be visited, with extreme skating being the order of the day. Parties / music / in store visits and signing to name just a few of the events.
This will be the Biggest Tour South Africa will see this year.

Roulette Jam 2008
We kicked off the 5th year of the NSA national South African
championships at the Boogaloos Monte Casino skate park.
This year we have a new guy onboard with us who goes
by the name of Anton.
Anton has never been on a plane
before or been to a skate comp in JHB. So we where
stoked to take him along. Riaan and I were telling
him all kinds of horror stories about plane crashes
to freak him out, but as always, Anton maintained his
calm 'poker face' through it.
The comp started really well with a really good turn out
and people were actually queuing at the door to get in.
We started the registration and got everything settled
for the prelims. An awesome new feature we have on our
website is a live chat that happens from the event on the
comp mini site, so we started talking to people and updating
everyone about what was going on at the comp. I must admit
that the sh*t that was going down was really crazy!
The
thing that stood out the most was the amount of new kids
coming up; it's really awesome seeing that happen!
Only ten guys could qualify from the prelims.
This gets
harder every year as dudes get better and better. At the
end we had three guys with flawless runs in the finals.
But Simon proved to be 'Numero Uno'; he also took best
trick with an incredible big spin flip front side board
slide down the big ass rail.
We have to say thank you to our sponsors for making these
events happen. Big up to Red Bull who has stuck with us
for 5 years now! Big thanks also to Converse
shoes and
MXIT mobile, Boogaloos, for giving us the park for the
day and Revolution for putting up the best trick prize
money.
We had an awesome time!! Next we are off to Skate lab
George to hit up one of the oldest comps in SA. And might
I add the biggest party comp too!
